SCRL is a creative design platform used by millions of people to make social media posts with complex layouts and advanced elements.

We’re looking for a Staff Engineer to take on the hardest architectural and algorithmic challenges in our cross-platform codebase spanning iOS (Swift), Android (Kotlin) and Web (React).

About the role

This is a role for a deeply technical individual who enjoys the "how" as much as the "what." While our product engineers build features, you will focus on the systems that make those features possible.

You’ll spend your time designing the core architecture, optimizing our rendering pipelines, and solving the complex mathematical problems that come with a high-end creative editor. You won't just write code; you’ll ensure the entire system remains fast, stable, and flexible as we grow.

What you will work on

• Core Architecture: Design the foundational systems for SCRL, ensuring the codebase stays maintainable and modular.

• Algorithmic Challenges: Solve deep problems in coordinate geometry, complex state management, and advanced photo editing features.

• Performance & Rendering: Identify and fix bottlenecks in our rendering engine. You’ll deal with memory management, GPU efficiency, and making sure the app stays fluid even with huge assets.

• Technical Leadership: Help set the technical direction for the team. You’ll lead design docs for major changes and help other engineers level up through high-impact code reviews.

• System Design: Build the logic for complex features like undo/redo and real-time synchronization between clients on different platforms.

What we’re looking for

• Deep Systems Experience: You have spent years building complex software systems. You understand how small architectural choices impact performance and scale years down the line.

• Strong Mathematical Intuition: You are comfortable with linear algebra, geometry, and data structures. You enjoy the logic behind the UI.

• Clear Thinker: You can take a messy problem and break it down into a clean, predictable system.

• Collaborative: You enjoy discussing technical trade-offs and can explain complex ideas simply.

• Quality Obsessed: You believe in writing code that is correct, testable, and built to last.

Strong signals

• Experience building editors, game engines, or graphics-heavy applications.

• Deep knowledge of Metal, C++, or other low-level optimization.

• A background in computer graphics, physics, or competitive programming.

• Experience working on large-scale apps where performance is a top priority.
